  1. It can't update if it can't connect - firewall it. To be clear, there isn't a simple "check this to disable it" option. Additionally, Microsoft has been "improving" how they handle updates, so what works now may not work in a future update. For example, last year they added a service that "fixes" windows updates, which undoes the older methods to disable it. You can find a collection of various ways to disable updates here. Relying on another device only works so long as that device does. Thanks for the article, but I'm going to have to look more thoroughly through it because the first method is one I've already seen a caveat for in another article (though it's not mentioned here).
  2. By this do you mean Win10 Pro never has any forced updates ever? I hear this every couple of years and have to do a bunch of research only to find out there's a caveat about "security updates" or something. Do you have complete absolute control over Win10 Pro as the PC owner? Yes, you can disable updates through Local Group Policy, and a few other ways as well, but this is the most simple. However turning these off means you will lose all updates until it is reactivated. I have no idea why people would do that, and why people are so scared of updates, in most cases it's because of pure ignorance or something someone told them that is just incorrect. The option is built into pro and enterprise Windows because many use custom in house software or other devices that need high compatibility without constantly having to maintain the code/drivers. I worked somewhere that had some really old HW (DOE) that they could not replace, as it was no longer made or supported (mfg didn't exist anymore) and was based on some old 8bit software. However those are HIGHLY specific cases that just does not apply to 99.99% of consumers. You can also stop it on Home as well, by blocking the services and IP's for updates in a firewall or router. This can be done for other services as well, with a dsnmasq that wont allow a LAN client to resolve the domain name into an IP, or it resolves into a local dead end IP. There are probably a hundred other ways to do this on non-Pro Window installs as well. This is helpful, adding Local Group Policy to my search shows different articles, but there are still caveats.https://www.windowscentral.com/how-stop-updates-installing-automatically-windows-10"Also, this guide only stops monthly updates, which usually fix security vulnerabilities and improves the stability of Windows 10. If you want to avoid automatic installs of feature updates, such as the Windows 10 May 2019 Update, when the current installation is nearing the end of service, you need to modify the settings to defer major releases."
  3. You can entirely disable updates in either Home or Pro, though obviously not recommended. Pro just has a few more options. https://www.windowscentral.com/microsoft-will-no-longer-force-windows-10-feature-updates-users"That last part is key. Users can't remain on an old version of Windows 10 forever. Microsoft says that it will automatically install the latest feature update when the version of Windows 10 the user is currently running reaches end of support." https://www.howtogeek.com/410183/microsoft-abandons-windows-10s-forced-updates/"When you click “Check for Updates” in Windows 10, you can choose whether you want to install the resulting updates or pause updates for up to 35 days. This pause feature is new to Windows 10 Home, and was previously only available in Windows 10 Professional. Previously, Windows automatically installed updates right after checking. And yes, this applies to smaller security, stability, and driver updates, too. (You can only pause seven days at a time, but you can pause up to five times in a row.)""Windows 10 will still automatically install a feature update when your current version reaches “end of service.” This happens about every 18 months—see the Windows lifecycle fact sheet. That means, if you were using Windows 10’s Fall Creators Update (1709), your PC would be about to install a feature update—but you wouldn’t have had to install the last few feature updates. (So yes, some forced feature updates remain—but only once every 18 months or so, after a lot of testing.)" Got a source?

  5. With the skill splits is it time for a wvw lobby with bots to test on?
  6. It's far too expensive. People don't like the amount of templates that are available to buy, but they are still pointing out how expensive it is using this limited number of templates. As far as the design I like it. I don't have legendaries though, so I'm a little out of my depth on this "runes/sigils popping out" issue. Seems like you could just leave them in the last equipped item/setting if they become unlinked.
  7. Not true, there was no graceful way to handle switching from two one handed weapons to one two handed weapon. It just shot the off hand out where your normal loot would go. How? If you mean compared to Arc? Sure. Otherwise I see nothing stopping you from using the first template exactly like you do now without Arc.
  8. I don't honestly see a price point where I'm interested in build slots of either variety. If gear slots are per character I feel like 200 is a good area for me. If they're per account though I could see myself going to 2k.
  9. The same thing that happens to it when I double-click it in my inventory. I have an extremely well sorted inventory regarding my equipable items. Everything has its prelocated slot, for each two-handed weapon I always leave a free slot next to it so that I can easily swap it for two other weapons. It's really simple to manage and causes no hassle whatsoever. I do this as well, I just do it all manually so I don't screw myself over on edge cases after relying on presets to do it mostly automatically. It would have been nice if they could have just made invisible bags grab bound items, but with some loot and (perhaps more importantly) bound crafting materials that would require some serious adjustments.
  10. Swapping items can't trash your gear as those items were never placed in limbo, hence cannot disappear. They were simply swapped. You don't get it, do you? ArcDPS:Load a template. Skills, Traits and Gear will be swapped at once.Gear that's been taken off lands in the exact inventory slots as the gear you swapped it for (i.e., as if you had manually double-clicked the slot and had swapped the item - simple). If you want to share ascended or legendary gear across characters, simply drag it into the bank. Your saved templates remain untouched by this action. GW2 system:Load a build template. Load a gear template separately (additional clicks).Gear lands in a new storage = additional hassle to find what you are looking for (you can't sort it as tidily as items in your inventory), very time-consuming. Your items are now in different places (unused ones in your inventory, used ones in the equipment storage).Requires separate equipment slots even for legendary gear if you want different stats for different builds (which takes the purpose of legendary gear ab absurdum, you could as well be using two ascended sets instead; of course, you could simply keep swapping stats manually, but you don't need templates for that, plus it's more time-consuming than using non-legendary gear). If you want to share ascended or legendary gear across characters, you first need to find it in either the equipment storage or one of your character's equipment tabs or inventory, then drag it into your bank. This will unlink it from any gear templates you have created on that character, and you will need to create them all over again every single time (you can't even save that information in your shared build storage to the left, regardless of its 27-slot limit, because that's Skills and Traits only). You are not paying attention, this was already covered. What happens to your off hand axe when you swap to a greatsword? Your mainhand axe goes to where the greatsword was, your off hand axe gets kicked back to regular inventory. It's not that Arc trashes the gear, it's that if I'm just switching builds carefree with it that scenario may cause me to accidentally trash my own gear that is now mixed with the rest of the loot. I'm not arguing against Arc, I'd rather it be allowed as well. I'm arguing there's a reason this system is so convoluted. There are other ways to fix this seemingly simple problem, but they're not simple fixes either.
  11. I mean that in a completely selfish way as Arc build templates have been a choice I've ignored for fear of trashing my gear. This separate armory stops the kickback of gear into the junk pile, and makes the quick swaps a reality for me now. I don't want it to come at the expense of other peoples' choices as far as Arc goes, but in a vacuum it seems like a good system to me. You're probably right. I don't have any legendaries so it fits me great, but it'd be a shame to waste all this work and not have any benefit to their most dedicated players. How do you feel about a legendary armory so you don't have to swap gear from character to character? I feel like that is a relatively easy thing to add to this system, but I'd like to see more ideas early to be added to something like that. Do you currently have to use tokens to change skins on legendaries? Maybe they can cut that and use the gear sets as more of a cosmetic thing.
  12. I don't think it's a good idea to force Arc to stop their templates, especially since I view this system as better. What has been taken away as far as legendary gear? I didn't see anything stopping you from keeping them on that first build slot and just changing stats. It's interaction with Arc I understand as a downgrade. See I feel bad about this, but now it's a choice I'm offered. I always stayed away from Arc's build templates because I've lost items to addons doing that kickback before in other games. Even with all these different types of bags in GW2 I didn't see a good way to save myself from accidentally trashing my gear because it was now unsorted among the other junk. I'd rather we both had our choices to be honest, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth to hear they didn't want Arc to be competing. I still don't see how you can't have your legendary gear on your character as normal in slot one and just change stats. Losing Arc functionality I recognize as a downgrade. I still feel like there's some cool things they could do with legendaries to appease people that just don't quite gain as much from this system (ignoring Arc), like having a "legendary armory" that is not tied to characters so you don't have to swap gear back and forth to different characters. "Notice, that with this new system that lets you put links to gear in the templates, this problem would have been solved anyway - the weapons would not have gotten kicked back to inventory, because they would have been in there (in the slot of you choosing) all along. Only their links would have been in templates. All that would have been necessary for it to work would be to separate templates (the tabs where links to gear would be placed), from actual storage (keeping the gear from which the links would originate)." You mean like how the build linking works? Isn't that going to cost inventory slots? Unless you're assigning multiple weapons to the same slot, which is bound to cause problems resulting in that kickback anyway. I don't see the benefit from the already proposed system that can only save you slots.
  13. What? Where do we have to build a separate storage?..."buy" a separate storage. Autocorrection got me here.No biggie, I took it the same way as building up your bank storage would just mean buying more tabs. Are you meaning Arc? Otherwise I'm lost on how you got here on the gear templates. You don't have to use multiple gear templates. it's made in such a way that you can just use the first one like normal. Honestly, how does Arc handle the extra weapon with no replacement slot? I don't even see a way for people to effectively configure their inventory to deal with it just being kicked back to regular storage. The build system isn't great, even from my perspective of not using Arc's templates it's only a small upgrade. Making account builds unlimited client side, then selling the character bound ones as basically a hotkey (and by that I do mean cheap) seems like it would go a long way. The gear templates though, I think they've got a good system here.
  14. What? Where do we have to build a separate storage? Anet had to build the separate storage. Everything I saw has this "armory" just as a hidden backend system that they use to keep track of your gear. Say you switch from a set with two one handed weapons to a set with one two handed weapon? Where does that extra weapon go? Right at the top of your bags where the rest of the loot to be salvaged and sold goes? Are they supposed to be able to detect everyone's specific inventory sorting system and know where you want it placed in your bags? I'm pretty sure this "armory" inventory is only for them to be able to keep track of your gear and not lose it while allowing you to switch sets on the fly.
