  1. Just wondering views on this, I'm mostly talking about PVP/WWW roaming. I really can't pick, venom seems like a solid common choice for a stealth build (I mostly run S/D to be honest but it's nice to swap either for a change or because the situation calls for it) but I've had some luck in small blobs dropping Black Powder and getting the 5 ticks to go off.
  2. Oh cool now you've moved onto Strawmen (stealth has little to with my point about Holosmith or Scarpper BUT again you're a dishonest debater). I'm going to put into big words for you because you like to skirt around the point so you can avoid having to post anything of substance, when you do post it tends to be to pick at single points (like here) so you don't have to address the larger point (because you can't). NOTHING YOU'VE WRITTEN THERE ABOUT A ELITE SKILL EXPLAINS OR JUSTIFIES GUTTING AT LEAST 3 THIEF BUILDS AND A ENTIRE TRAIT LINE BY REMOVING A INTENDED USE FOR AN ABLITY. Yes, ANet has allowed players for 11 years to abuse something and they never intended for it to be used that way. kitten kitten. No, lets not because it would be another strawman so you can avoid any actual substance to your posts.
  3. The problem with comments like this, and I understand where you're coming from, is that those sorts of builds (of which I can run) sacrifice a lot to do what you're stating (as well as pick my moments), I can do similar things on other classes and give up a lot less to do it. Hyperbolic clown comment. This synergy is built into the class and is intended to be used this way. Yes because it's LITERALLY a linchpin of the class, removing it (and then sticking your fingers in your ears) utterly guts several builds as well as utterly wrecks Shadow Arts. You're looking at a Jenga tower and saying "OH lets remove this brick just here and I don't care if the whole tower comes crashing down because the tower was mean to me". You're throwing out blanket statements and when you get any sort of push back like "well, that would utterly change everything about the class using synergy as intended, it would change huge parts of the class in one single stroke" you answer "JuSt ReMoVe iT". It's actually lol given you talk about Engineer and the insane amount of output I can do on a Scapper or a Holosmith.
  4. As said, dishonest debater. You'll throw junk out like this with no real substance to what you're bringing when you face push back. I gave an example of what it would become, it wouldn't matter what you had in main hand it would become 100% as I stated if they simply removed Smoke Field (so your point is basically of little point, but AS said dishonest debater). It would become a more expensive, lesser Shadow Shot. It shoots a single blind shot, like Shadow Shot and then drops a Smoke Field, remove the Smoke Field and it does less damage, less utility for more expense than Shadow Shot. Hell if people want it changed, do it, I heavily lean to S/D but even if I wasn't I'd adjust but that leaves it either entirely gutted (as well as changes huge parts of Shadow Arts that rely on stealth or blind and would kill any other build outside of D/P that use Pistol in off hand) or it needs replacing; which you don't want. BUT like I said, you're a dishonest debater with little of worth to bring. As said, dishonest debater. TL;DR this is simply dishonest debating, throwing out grand ideas and then when pushed on those ideas just shouts "spoken like a true thief protecting his pistol 5".
  5. So you delete pistol 5 and... what? That's it? Thief doesn't get anything on pistol 5? It keeps pistol 5 but the Smoke Field goes? So it's basically it's the same as pistol 3 but with less damage than pistol 3, less blind than pistol 3, no teleport/utility like pistol 3 but iT WoN'T NeEd ChAnGiNg ThAt'S FiNe. I can't even with some of you people, I think it's pretty clear you're dishonest debaters.
  6. What an utterly weird argument. Remove Pistol 5 and it would need replacing with something else, you'd probably STILL be moaning about that. Another absolutely weird thing to claim.
  7. I've played more than a few classes by far one of the hardest to get good with was Thief, it's a razors edge of fighting near death and being alive all the time. In a game of Sig Cata, one shot Rangers, easy mode if you're bad Willbenders, unkillable Condibunkers, Celestial Harbinger's there are people (still) moaning because a Thief managed to run away is comical.
  8. I think it took me about.. a few days at most to unlock most of Spectre in WvWvW...? I just traded the green bauble things at the Hero Trader which ranked up points I could spend on the tree/circle.
  9. Ugh this, a 100 times over. I find almost without fail if I ever see "our thief is bad" rage in chat it's from the person making my job harder. The other type is the one that rages because I ran from a 3v3 fight at a single point, that we then lose, but we gain the other two points instead because I capped them. I'm not hanging around fair fights unless I have no other option mate, it's either de/capping or unfair fights (advantage to me).
  10. In raids yes but in fractals most fights outside of a boss are over pretty quick. Again, I'm not a massive PVEer either so I'm just saying it as I understand it.
  11. Sure, no problem. http://gw2skills.net/editor/?PawAwiVlNwuYbsOGJOMXrNVA-z5IGCmDA That build will give you a condi remove on every utility, heal and elite (dagger storm) as well as when you evade (also remember with that build when you steal you recharge a random utility skill which is very powerful). It really comes down to scuppering their opening steal into shadow strike though. And yes, as time goes on it gets easier. You learn to predict their burst (Deadeye is even easier because they telegraph their burst for all to see and you just dagger storm it right back at them), you'll learn to evade when you should evade and not just panic dodge. For example, sometimes with D/P thieves if they are stealthing a lot I'll swap to short bow and throw out the odd cluster bomb over my head while they in stealth (nothing better than seeing them come out of stealth with 50% health) and throw in a random disabling shot (for evade) or dodge roll to throw off their backstab (I know I said you'll learn to not panic dodge but this isn't the same, you'll learn stealth times and have a rough idea of when they are going to try and attack). There's no one tactic I have for dealing with other thieves, sometimes killing them seems right, other times avoiding them and being elsewhere seems right; you just sort of learn it as you get better. I don't care as long as we win, I had some random hate tells from a D/P thief a few days ago along the lines of "fight me 1v1 bru" in a game they lost (this happened in three games with the same person), I have no idea what they thought they were proving or doing for their team. Also remember that the best players will look at the enemy team via the scoreboard before a match starts and notice the class icons and adjust their build as required, 9/10 a base thief icon is a condi thief (some players will go even to the point of changing class by logging out to character select and logging back in again to alter the matchmaking system, not something I do but keep in mind many will) That said, I'm not trivialising the pain a condi thief can cause (or other condi builds on other classes for that matter). There are times when I will have 50% health and no utility skills ready and they will open on me and I'm dead. Other times I'll just make the wrong call and get outplayed, win some lose some.
  12. Does any condi build for any class do well in fractals? I don't know enough to say but my understanding was that condi just wasn't good for fractals across the board.
  13. I regularly beat Condi Thieves with S/D 1v1. I have a condi cleanse on every utility, shadowstep and evade. In sPVP where you know who your enemy are and have a good idea of where they are on the mini map (or more importantly if they are not showing up on there at all) if I'm taking a point and I know there's a good chance they will be there I simply tap dodge or flanking strike while I take the node; the number of times they screw up their open from stealth because I evade it is comical (if you see them coming 1v1 and still don't evade their opening burst as S/D then you're just plain doing the build wrong to be frank). The bad ones will keep stealthing because they don't know what to do when they don't kill you right away and you'll get the node, at that point I'll just make the call if it's worth sticking around to kill them or move to another empty node (or maybe support mid, thief is a fluid thing), by the time that thief has taken back the node I'll have another one. Of course that's when you're alone on a node when you've +1'd a fight it's not so easy but that's their thing, that's what they do, massive open condi burst. But with a tiny build change (and accepting that you're losing Bountiful Theft for Trickster and Marauders Resilience for Escapists Fortitude) as I said above, I have a condi cleanse on every utility, shadowstep and evade. Really though it comes down to predicting their steal burst and hitting flanking strike. I just swap to short bow when I'm dealing with a Mesmer, tap 3 Disabling Shot for the evade when I need to evade and let auto attack bounce with the odd pre-detonate cluster bomb thrown in.
  14. No, that just means they make people respond emotionally and that's all it meansYou can respond emotionally to something good or bad but responding to something emotionally doesn't factually show/prove it's either. This pretty much reads like every "suggestion" thread on every MMO board since the dawn of MMOs, simply put "nerf stealth". I don't even run a stealth build.
  15. From his health it looks like he's running Marauder's Res with a Berserker Amulet. None of you are correct. I ran scholar with mara amu and heal/cleanse on dodgeI just logged on to correct myself actually, it's easier to see on a full screen rather than a phone.
