  1. This whole game is too expensive. Spent over 200 bucks on this game over the life of it between box purchases and story unlocks, but from the way Anet nickle and dimes people on things like character slots, inventory space and bank tabs it feels like I'm a f2p in one of those super stingy low budget MMOs. Rabidly anti-consumer.
  2. Re: Thief and other e-specs. Defying expectations and treading new ground is what elites are all about. It's a core of having them make sense. To the person saying they want to be dirty fighter sneaking around with stealth and daggers and swords and all that... you can already do that. That is already a thing that exists go wild. Elites have never and shouldn't be just more of the same.
  3. Seeing how much debate over his motivations this thread has stirred up has kind of made me go back and reconsider that maybe it's not just bad writing. There's been a lot of discussion over what's justified and what isn't with lots of different opinions, which to me says at least something is working rihgt.
  4. It really does sound kind of meme-y but the more I play the more I think it's true. Most classes are so used to having like, one actual build or sometimes not having a good way to play in a certain game mode at all. Honestly it's kind of a travesty how many weapons, traits and utility skill combos Anet has basically just given up on for so many professions.
  5. Well that and thief mechanics actively disincentivize weapon swapping and Shortbow has the most meaningful utility attached to it. Thief basically boils down to primary weapon + something else and the Shortbow is the only option that has a 'something else' that really stands out.
  6. There's something weird about reading a post like this from someone who has a Mesmer icon. I remember some of my first experiences in WvW were just getting downed from full health only to have a mesmer appear nearby and use a finisher.
  7. What I'd most like to see is an elite spec that explores new territory when it comes to playing the thief. Core thief kind of had this vibe of a selfish, roaming loner, good at handling single targets but not as good at playing with others or working well in large-scale settings. By and large, Daredevil just kind of doubled down on that. Deadeye is less mobile, but still pretty much the same idea of a selfish DPS good at picking off single targets. At least in theory if not execution. Plus, both Rifle and Staff are power weapons.I like the idea of a Torch thief that leans heavier into Condi damage (burning, since Thieves don't have that innately) and is better at skirmishing.Alternatively, a "Medic" specialization that does party support could be neat.A support class that actually likes pushing all of its buttons could be a neat way to leverage initiative in a more interesting way too. I've seen some people talk about a swashbuckler or assassin with an offhand sword and while I totally get why that'd be fun, I feel like it'd just end up being way too much of the same basic idea we've been retreading with Thief since 2012. alternatively: Greatsword or hammer because I have no idea what a thief with those weapons would even look like and weird is good.
  8. Yeah because clearly if there's some niche that needs to be explored on Thief it's single target power damage and being a pvp/wvw duelist/skirmisher. Hard, hard pass on that idea.
