  1. Hello all. I have a problem that is mostly stemming from the fact that I have been playing this game for nearly 2 years now without much of a deviation from it, but I have a mechanist problem and I believe that it is killing my ability to further enjoy the game. What I mean by the Mechanist problem is that the Mechanist is such a multi-tool that when I branch to other classes, I feel out of place and like I'm gimping myself just to say that I am not playing Mechanist. As a note, I almost exclusively play instanced content with my focus being raids and fractals. I do not enjoy open world too much which may also impact how I feel about the class. My first problem is that dps Mechanist, both condition and power, can hit above 25K without a rotation. I love this as I cannot describe how much I loathe rotations, especially strict ones. Sitting at the training golem for an hour trying to complete the 55-button sequence to pull of the optimal DPS rotation to hit 38k on X class is basically pulling teeth, and I much prefer the playstyle of "off-cooldown" that mechanist has. I have tried the Low Intensity builds that some have put out to alleviate this problem; however, my problem is with complexity instead of intensity (I would love to see a surge of "rotationless" builds for DPS players from buildcrafters). Along the same lines of DPS is the CC that Mechanist brings. Innately, I bring 2 strong forms of CC with rifle, and I always run Throw Mine for a small DPS loss but simpler rotation (see a pattern here?) and large gain to overall CC potential while still hitting top to near top damage in PUGs. Comparing this to other classes requires either foregoing decent CC to maintain DPS or to sacrifice DPS for more CC, thus bringing be back to gimping myself. Additionally, Mechanist can support really well. HAM is an extremely consistent healer and boon supporter as well as having great DPS for a healer. AlacDPS mech does great damage and has amazing CC along with ranged DPS. Finally, being an engineer allows me to play QuickDPS or Heal Scrapper to cover the other major boon and also provide large amounts of super speed. Finally, with regards to instanced content, mech can do nearly every role required for Raids and Strikes. Mech can tank extremely well, can Q1 kite (and pylon kite I believe), and can even act as the group's HK while also being a HAM allowing for an additional DPS slot to fill on Deimos, allowing for faster kills (which no other HK class can do). I write all of this because I want to try other classes but every time I do it just feels bad and am looking for a little bit of help. The solution is probably just to take a break for a bit and come back later, but I figured this forum has given me pretty good advice in the past so we would start here. Anyone have any advice or tips for a player of 2 years to find love for other classes?
  2. Fixed i guess. I just deleted all the addons. Hopefully we get some addon compatibility soon
  3. When I boot up the game after this recent update, I keep getting the following error: *--> Crash <--* Exception: c0000005 Memory at address 00007ff7`85335000 could not be read App: Gw2-64.exe Pid: 5080 BaseAddr: 00007FF782820000 ProgramId: 101 Build: 136081 Module: gw2addon_arcdps.dll When: 2022-10-20T00:56:32Z 2022-10-19T20:56:32-04:00 Uptime: 0 days 0:00:14 Flags: 0 DumpFile: Crash.dmp *--> System <--* Name: 1f7fd3bd IpAddr: 10.96.147.116 Processors: 16 [AuthenticAMD:15:0:0] OSVersion: Windows 10.0 (64 bit) *--> System Memory <--* Physical: 7923MB/14204MB 55% Paged: 12111MB/20860MB 58% Virtual: 134212729MB/134217727MB 3% Load: 44% CommitTotal: 8748MB CommitLimit: 20860MB CommitPeak: 9138MB SystemCache: 7440MB HandleCount: 127451 ProcessCount: 256 ThreadCount: 4257 *--> Process Memory <--* Private: 307MB WorkingSet: 264MB PeakWorkingSet: 264MB PageFaults: 1666038 *--> Memory Category Usage (Inclusive) <--* [Category] [Size(MB)] [Count] Root 200.18 7720 Programmer Data 142.25 2163 Engine 80.27 77 Gr 80.25 66 DDI 80.18 62 Uncategorized 51.48 4802 I/O 35.11 584 Archive 33.79 38 Collections 26.53 16 255 Dictionary 26.09 4 Collide 6.45 755 Collide Havok 6.45 755 File Service 1.24 12 Networking 0.14 25 Event 0.13 5 BTree 0.13 22 Asset Service 0.07 531 Gr Umbra 0.06 2 Game 0.05 56 Content 0.02 1 Msg 0.02 10 Threading 0.01 14 Model-Programmer 0.01 1 Install 0.00 32 *--> Memory Category Usage (Exclusive) <--* [Category] [Size(MB)] [Count] DDI 80.18 62 Uncategorized 51.48 4802 Archive 33.79 38 Dictionary 26.09 46 Collide Havok 6.45 755 File Service 1.24 12 Collections 0.31 1186 Event 0.13 5 BTree 0.13 22 Networking 0.12 15 Asset Service 0.07 531 Gr Umbra 0.06 2 Game 0.03 46 Content 0.02 1 Msg 0.02 10 Threading 0.01 14 Model-Programmer 0.01 1 Engine 0.01 6 Install 0.00 32 Web Browser 0.00 10 Platform 0.00 65 CharClient 0.00 5 Services 0.00 12 File Core 0.00 2 I have no idea what to do as nothing I do seems to work. 4. It is also a function of the time that I play. The largest problem is that I cannot even get 9 other people to join most days. I honestly can advertise a wing 6 full clear group and not get but a couple of people to join within the first 20 minutes. It is too common for me to sit with a group on the LFG for an hour and still not fill as people drop in and out the longer it sits. And as far as other groups on the in-game LFG, there aren't any. I have the obligatory pay for clear spammers that I havent blocked yet, but there aren't others to join. Its only on rare occasion that I will see a group that is available. I just find it frustrating that I am at a point where I cannot play content due to there being no one to play with. I have spend my off time this week looking at now 2 screens for an LFG with next to no success. PUGing wings 1-4 isn't too hard and i can get them consistently; however, it has been the largest chore to find 5-7. I would love to switch to EU as they seem to actually be active when I am playing unlike NA.
  5. I am on NA and I may have to try that out. The three guilds I have tried to run instanced content haven't worked out due to my job as it seems that slots are frequently filled by players who can more reliably be on during their raid timings.
  6. Thank you for the discord. I have tried a few different ones but I have had little success. I have plenty of success with forming groups for strikes, including CMs and am familiar with the appropriate language to use when asking for groups. Raids just don't fill for a multitude of reasons. I will give the discord a shot. It has to be better than the LFG in the game.
  7. Been playing the game for over a year now. I've mained fractals and have enjoyed the LFG PUG experience due to how easy and quick it is to find groups no matter what time of day it is. Attempting to raid, however, has been one of the worst experiences I've had in this game by far. Due to having a full time job and working different and inconsistent days, I cannot join the "at reset" groups. That also means that I cannot join statics because I may work that day. This leaves LFG. At the only time that I can join, there are never any groups running raids. Creating your own results in sitting and waiting for 45 minutes to create a squad, but you can't command because you don't have eniugh experience and no one will join a group without a commander. Further, if I'm lucky enough to see a group on LFG, it is likely that it is a high KP join or a CM. I've thoroughly enjoyed this game up until now, but I cannot stand sitting and looking at the LFG for a raid encounter or to start a group in the hopes that it fills within a reasonable amount of time. It makes me wonder where the Steam players are. The game honestly feels dead when you aren't trying to simply comb through the mindless open world activities. This has just been a quick rant with some hope for a solution as I feel myself losing enjoyment with this game each week due to having no option to clear raids as a solo player without a consistent play schedule.
  8. A while back I saw an infographic for instanced content including what classes brought which buffs. It was intended for newer players to simplify the process of choosing a role when playing with others and was made for the recent expansion. Can anyone link it here as I cannot find it anymore?
  9. I have decided to purchase a set of unbreakable gathering tools from the gem store. I want input on what are the best to buy. I don't care about speed gathering; I prefer extra untility and bonuses on gathering. What should I grab? It doesn't have to be currently available either.
  10. Hello all! I am a casual-ish player with a moderate amount of time to devote to the game. I am looking for a guild who isn't too hardcore, that welcomes new players, and is tolerant of people without too much experience with higher-end game modes such as fractals or raids. I play often; however, I work odd hours and may have lulls where I cannot play for days on ends or may have stents where I cannot play for but an hour a day. I would like to be a part of an active guild that can accommodate the average Joe. About me: I am a nurse and work weird hours because of that.I enjoy doing all types of game modes, but prefer PvE. I have found that I really like fractals.I have played a lot of classes and still cannot choose a main.My wife occasionally will play with me. She is super casual and just likes to tag along with whatever I do.I like to play well but do not plan on being the best at any game mode, so I typically will be playing some type of support.I enjoy having goals, so when I'm playing, I usually have some end-goal that I am working toward (Legendaries, mounts, home instance, etc.) I dislike elitism and toxicity, especially in gaming. We are here to have fun and I do not want to have to deal with someone who treats Guild Wars like anything but a game.If there is a guild who welcomes someone like myself, send me a message. I'm sure that we will enjoy playing together in the near future.
  11. I'm thinking on making an alt and want some input. Which is more fun to play between Mesmer or Necro? I love summons/minions and both have access to something like that. I also love being tanky, which Necro has, but I also like playing support, which Mesmer does well. I'm a little torn and would like some input from the games more seasoned opinions.
  12. I am wanting to go for my first ascended set for my warrior. I want some input as to what you guys think is the best way that I should go about obtaining my first set of ascended gear. I was thinking about doing fractals, but I am not sure if people would want someone with only exotic gear joining them and I'm not sure how difficult tier 4 fractals are (I believe that I saw that tier 4 and above can drop ascended gear). Raiding seems fun, but it has the same problem as fractals as I don't think anyone would want someone with exotics in their raid party. I have looked into crafting, and have even gotten my armorsmithing to 500 and crafted a few of the daily ascended materials, but the process looks daunting and there are a few items that I would need to grind in the silverwastes (I think) for. What would you guys recommend be the method that a player gets their first set of ascended gear? Side note: This forum is extremely helpful and positive to newbies. Thank you to those who take the time to respond.
  13. Conditiondamage is delayed. You load conditions on your targets, they get damaged per tick. So you use your skills and have to "wait" until your opponent dies. By using Dire stats, you rely 100 % on condition damage only. This can be extremely annoying when dealing with several (trash) mobs at once. But how do you survive? The keyword is: Active DefensesUse dodges to evade powerful attacks.Use Aegis to block attacks.Use Swiftness to improve your movement speed, so you can run out of area-attacks and outrun charged attacks. Use Protection to reduce incoming damage that cannot be prevented to the absolute minimum. Use Stability to prevent yourself from getting knocked down/back or stunned, so you can always use your active defenses. Once you suffer from a crowd-control effect yourselves, the only thing that prevents you from dying is your 20k HP pool. Once it is depleted, you are defeated. Use reflects to block projectiles.Heal damage early, as your heal-skill is not very powerful.Use crowd-control on your enemies to interrupt attacks and give you an advantage in combat. It looks nice when you read it, but execution is a bit difficult. The meta demands that DPS has utmost priority above everything, so the Active Defenses have to run in the background. That is why they rarely explain those mechanics properly. They assume you already know this. A few easy tricks to get started: Movement is key. You can melee your target by walking around in narrow circles. This will cause them to miss a lot of attacks. Most of your attacks, even the axe-skills, have an attack range. So try to avoid 100% melee at all costs. Kite your mobs. Dodging should be the last option, as it is the most powerful defense you have. It is capable of negating every attack. Never let the endurance-bar run low and always try to use other methods instead. TerrainWhen you are fighting ranged-opponents, use cover. Once the line of sight is broken, the AI forces them to switch to melee-mode. That means they run towards you. This gives you time. Also use objects & walls to stack enemies up, so your cleave-attacks hit them all together. NPCs cannot jump. So if you jump on a small ledge, they always take the long way. You can play cat & mouse with melee units by just jumping up and down. CCAxe 3 and Tome of Justice 3 are powerful pulls. You can use them as combat-starters to give you a preemptive attack, but also to interrupt powerful attacks. When fighting melee opponents, Scepter 3 works great. RecoveryWhen you are about to heal up, use Tome of Resolve 5. It enhances the heal by 33 % for 8 seconds. Your heal-skill will heal for ~ 2k. If you follow the build-recommendation and use it every 7 seconds, you can gain a total of 4k HP recovery with the buff and 3k without. The real problem is to get as little damage as possible, to make sure the small amounts of heal are enough to keep you stable. At a greater cost of Quickness uptime, you can replace Mantra of Solace for Litany of Wrath. It works with condition damage, so you should be able to heal up quickly. Charge AttacksWhen an opponent is about to do a powerful attack, they usually have to charge up. You easily notice the effect-area of that attack. So instead of interrupting that attack, let the NPC charge. Position yourself outside of the damage-area and use the free-time to deal damage and recover your useful skills. No need to spam defensive skills while "waiting." This is extremely helpful. Frying some of your tips has helped a decent amount with survivability. Thank you for the detailed response.
  14. Both HoT and PoF are dramatically different from Tyria in terms of multiple mobs staying together and the sheer volume of conditions/cripple/stun etc that is applied. How do you fare in Cursed Shore or in the Silverwastes, the latter having mordrem that tend to pull separately? Everything in core Tyria is not too bad to tackle, it's the expansions that give me so much trouble. The Silverwastes can get to be a bit much sometimes, but I can fair waaay better there than PoF or HoT.
