  1. I can answer this. The selling point for this game for me was WVW believing that purchasing the game and expacs as well as spending money to get some of my professions to max level quickly I could enjoy the mode with ANY profession . Finding out that not every profession is viable due to a lack of balance means that I can't play what makes me happy while being herded into having to play what doesn't if I want to participate. Being limited to handful of builds is ridicules. As an adult I take responsibility for how I spend my money but it's obvious I'm not getting any return on my investment because whoever is in charge of this branch of development is letting it fall by the wayside. So at this point I would rather sit this one out and see where it goes in the future rather than subject myself to anti - fun any longer. I can go play something else. If they can't make all professions viable in WVW then it shouldn't be an option.
  2. I'm not sure what you're trying to convey here.If you think I personally "hate" spam, you're wrong, it's more that I don't really care, all professions are more or less "spamy" any way.If you think that I don't know how to face a stealthed player, you're also wrong, almost all professions have a way or another to do so. The point is that if a thief engage you while stealthed, you got high probabilities to not know that there was a thief in the area in the first place so it hardly matter whether you've got a brain or not. Worse case you're dead in a gifi, best case you're close to death. As for spammability it's what enable things like permasteath or repeated use of evade/dodge/movement skill. Facing repeatedly the same defensive mechanism in a short time frame easily become frustrating. A frustrated player easily become angered. And an angered player "hate". Nothing more nothing else. The initiative mechanism is uniquely designed to allow the thief to perform such feats which is one of the reason the thief receive hate. I understand that you want to defend your favored playstyle/profession and there is greatness in the thief's playstyle. The thief playstyle is far from being a brainless one, you have to mind a lot of thing to be successfull. However, there is no point in trying to make it look like that playstyle involve great "mindgame" with your opponent when most of the time your opponent have absolutely no idea he/she is playing a "mindgame" with you. Not to sound rude but if a thief can't evade within a short amount of time what should they do to survive ? Stand there and tank damage against professions that have the best of both worlds ? Should everyone just play high damage dealing immortal tank classes because they don't want to deal with stealth or evasion. No wonder people are bored with the current meta.
  3. I agree with you 100%, I would like nothing better than to be able to play a thief that never touches stealth and I am finding that if I wish to continue I won't really have any choice. Don't get me wrong , Ive had success killing solo players and even 2v1 using sword ports and other mobility without using stealth but this play style is far from easy mode. I'll give an example of what I'm talking about. Last night , this was late when almost no one was on, I decided to put two stealth skills on my bar. I caught what I thought was a solo player flipping a guard and made my move. He was almost down when a second player arrived and started hitting me real hard. I retreated and used a combination of stealth and blink to escape but these guys were foaming at the mouth and chased me all the way into the courtyard of the keep. I was able to get inside the wall while they were fighting with several guards. I jumped on a cannon and started blasting them repeatedly at which point they eventually both died. However, with that being said, it took forever to kill them even with a cannon. I know they were quite angry but they should have let it go once I got inside. Either way I would never have killed them with my damage. It was hard enough with a cannon. If I did not have the stealth skills at the time I would not have made it back.
  4. For what it's worth , I would like to offer my 2 cents as a new player since there seems to be this never ending debate over thief. I have played different builds over the last few months on three different professions including thief. What I have discovered is that anyone trying to use pure damage or offense as defense cannot easily win encounters versus defensive tank builds. The game seems to be skewed in favor of I guess what you refer to as bunker builds although I'm not familiar with that terminology. I have played several different thief builds and attempted to play with no stealth at all. Sadly , there isn't enough damage whether It's direct damage or conditional , to really be effective unless you catch a solo player that is really bad. The whole concept of thief having high mobility is not effective either because most players have the ability to catch you regardless of your build. This only leaves stealth as a means to escape from players that are running these immortal builds because there simply isn't enough damage to do more than poke them and not enough mobility to outrun them. What is a solo player suppose to do versus 1-5 immortal players that they can't even scratch ? The players here that are complaining about thief must be really unskilled because I can tell you it's not easy mode at all trying to run around on a thief. This video seems unrealistic and gives me the impression that the reason it was posted is to promote bias against stealth . I think anyone that believes thief is op should just make one and try roaming solo for a day before drawing any kind of conclusion about the profession. Or better yet, play one with no stealth and you will wonder why they don't have the damage they are suppose to have to compensate for that.
  5. Thanks for the info, Recently I encountered a Necro that was able to withstand multiple attacks from several players but then after a bit of time they seemed to lose their ability to do that and they would run off and then come back. Another was a group of maybe 5 Necro's that were able to keep overcoming a group twice their size. They weren't trying to cap anything but were just standing outside the keep killing anyone that tried to pass through. Eventually there were enough people to run them off but it took a lot of players to do this.
  6. Since I don't have experience playing the profession , would someone be willing to explain why Necro seems to be so powerful. I see a lot of players running around on this that are difficult to kill whether it's a solo Necro versus multiple opponents or a small group of Necro's versus a larger group. This isn't me hating on any particular profession , I'm just trying to understand the mechanics. I have no desire to play Necro either. I see more people playing Necro and Guardian than any other profession.
  7. Hi, can anyone tell me if Superior Rune of Thorns is still in the game. Thanks in advance.
  8. @Veprovina.4876 Thank you for your reply. This answered a lot of my questions. I did get the mount by tagging along with a small group that was taking a keep during off hours. Although I like the Mesmer's kit , I haven't had a lot of success with it. I have been experimenting with a hard mode S/D core thief build that uses no stealth skills at all and have had more success with that than the Mesmer based on the mobility, the timing however has to be perfect. I prefer a challenge so I'm having a lot of fun running around with that. Overall the mode is fun but like all pvp games there are balancing issues. I've never played one that didn't have them. The big three way zerges kind of remind me of how ESO was back in the day before they added the CP system. Yes I did get run over by a few blobs also lol.
  9. @"Gotejjeken.1267 Thank you, this was helpful.I will be staying based on what I've already invested.
  10. Thank you for your reply, I greatly appreciate it. I know that was a lengthy post. So then I'm guessing that ANET is neglecting WVW which I find interesting considering the fact that they are in the process of releasing new content and have over one million active players atm. If I'm not mistaken, WVW was one of the main selling points of the game years ago. It's difficult to find a decent mmo these days that has this feature and the combat is quite good imho. It's unfortunate really.
  11. As a new player to GW2 and to WVW , I have a few observations as well as questions so far. Having played my fair share of mmo's over the last 15 years that feature open world pvp as well as pk including those that don't separate from pve , I'm not completely without experience. In fact, I specifically decided to give this game a try because of the WVW mode. That being said, I have a lot of respect for those of you who have put in the time and effort over the years. Even with my experience , the variables in this game can seem daunting at times . So imagine yourself from the perspective of being a new player that's just getting involved in the mode for the first time. Also, I'm not in a guild and have only attempted solo roaming. First off, I have three level 80's with elite skills . A rev , mesmer and a thief. I'm not playing the rev because from what I understand , the condition mallyx herald is considered broken and I had no idea which is disappointing ( yes I have the torment runes ) and I'd rather have more of a challenge. The mesmer and thief are a lot more fun and challenging , so I've played a bit with those two. I'm not running the perma stealth build on the thief atm but may decide to depending on how things play out. So far I have experienced the following : Encountering small groups of players who's strategy is to all simultaneously jump on me at the same time and spam skills . ( I'm guessing I look intimidating with my exotic noob armor and they don't want to take any chances ) Encountering solo players who run away from any type of engagement. Being ganked by duo thiefs using perma stealth. Running past players that are standing around in groups with enemy players having a conversation (lol really ? ) Having groups ride past me and not even bother killing me. ( Is anyone going to try and kill this noob ) Being hit for 10k by some sort of Platinum General ( wth , why can't I hit for 10k ) Encountering un killable players ( why can't I do any damage ? I'm hitting for 32k in pve ) Like clockwork in the evenings , massive groups come in for a few hours and zerg and then leave. I tried to tag along and follow the zerg because I have everything to get the mount except for taking a keep ( lol who's idea was that ) Anyone have a guide on how to solo a keep to get your warclaw lol. Do you know what it's like trying to run behind 80 players on mounts and being the only one on foot. My questions are : Why do I encounter unkillable players that take little or no damage even from three or more players ?Why is my damage so weak in comparison ? Were talking burst here not condition. Why do the largest amount of players only come in at night for a short time and then leave ?Is there an interest in pvp in WVW by players or are they just trying to complete objectives without any hassle. ( heard one guy complaining that someone interrupted his easy pips by going to red because of the outnumbered bonus. ) Also , it seems that after a certain time of day in the evenings, the same few people take over the chat and use it to bs . These are the same guys every night that don't seem to be playing the game but just talk about everything but the game. I really can't stand it to be honest. I don't know, maybe they are lonely and could just call each other instead of spamming the chat with moronic conversation about crap no one cares about. So in an effort to reply to the OP , I'm trying to figure out if this mode is worth investing any more time into myself. I know this was a bit lengthy , thanks for reading.
  12. Howdy, New player here learning the game . So far the progression seems to be fairly balanced , not to easy not to difficult. The exp is fairly easy to obtain which is likely to enable new players to progress to level 80 as quickly as possible so they can get to the endgame content without too much of a grind . Ive played a number of mmorpg's over the last few decades with ESO being the most recent. ESO as an example is much easier. I was able to solo world bosses and dungeons before reaching max level in that game. I like the positive atmosphere in this game. There are plenty of players in the starter areas and most are helpful. It's fun doing group events which Ive found are very difficult to solo in most cases having died many times. I was focused on map completion for a bit but then I kind of got a little annoyed with the whole platform jumping for vistas thing based on how long it can take at times so I figure I will just go back and do those later. Not really my cup of tea. Starter areas could use a makeover , they seem a little dated. I also think I spend more time studying the skill system then I do actually playing the game. Nice to see there are over a million active players as well. Surprised I passed this one up over the years. Looking forward to the after level 80 content and wvw . I hope it will be interesting.
