  1. Yeah that’s a good point, but they have a new Game Director leading Gw2 and he seems to be more of a fan of “iteration”. Not many more drastic changes that will reinvent the wheel will be coming down the line, and he’s championing the Soto style content. You might notice recently we’re getting more quality of life updates and balance is happening a bit more often in the past 1-2 years. That’s in part at least due to him. They have a very long way to go, but my only point was that they don’t need to make the same mistakes they made in the past. And this current crew that works there might be more aware of that then many in these forums think they are. Times are changing man Ncsoft wants their continual growth. Like it or hate it it’ll attract customers. But if GW3 was made while Gw2 still got regular updates it would lessen the problem you’re speaking on. This is what Grinding Gear Games is doing with Path of Exile 2. It would allow them to show off the brand new shiny thing and still give love to gw2. Although it wouldn’t be anything as dramatic as the first three expacs at one time.
  2. Gw1 and gw2, gw2 is ongoing but it launched in 2012.
  3. I like that so many posts just opt to take the most cynical pessimistic view humanly possible to easily sound smart. Watch how easy it is: You actually think it's reasonable to hope for Gw3 to not have a predatory system? Tell me, why would they even make a new Gw game if not to cash in on a wider audience? They easily changed the styles of the games between Gw1 and Gw2, so why not Gw3? It's because Anet realized that all that matters now is your money, and have decided to make Gw3 to appease NCsoft execs. So even hoping that Gw3 will somehow not be "predatory" is naïve and wishful thinking. Maybe you should just enjoy the game you already have before vainly hoping that somehow Anet will make anything remotely better next time. See how negative that was? And for what? Because anet has a track record for being predatory? Uhh well not really compared to most other big companies... not really at all. No sub fee, f2p for the base game... If you're worried they'll turn into another EA then sure, it's good to keep a watchful eye out for that. But to only hope or expect that their new game just steers clear of predatory practices and nothing else is total doomer. You need to have higher standards than that or might as well be happy playing in the mud. The goals I set out aren't hopium at all, they're totally realistic for post launch support. 1. New Engine. This is self explanatory. There engine is inhouse spaghetti code and hard to debug. Not to mention the graphics will looks better for a new generation. Rumors are already this is what Gw3 will be made with, so start adjusting. 2. Less scope creep/ feature creep. Oh I forgot to mention an ex Anet dev mentioned this also. He said there's too much fluff and Anet shouldn't try to bite off more than they can chew. It's great advice because Gw2 did exactly that. 3. Post Launch support. Anet made new systems attracted new fans then abandoned them (pvp/wvw/raids) because they weren't perfect and they wanted to make something else. This isn't how you foster a community post launch. Anet learned the hard way. None of these are unrealistic, anet made good games in the past and has the talent to keep up with the competition. Oh and to your point that newer MMO's have a harder time competing with older ones, that's true. But I have a hunch Gw2 could keep getting soto style content even after Gw3 launches, similar to what Grinding Gear is doing with PoE and PoE2. They can support one and taper it off as they add more and more content for the next one. So stop being doomer.
  4. Okay well I guess just releasing the bare bones and nothing impressive post launch is what we should expect then by your logic for gw3. No need for goals 😂
  5. War staff was busted but so was hammer vindi. It was on par with war staff and could 1v1 pretty adequately with it. Now it's unchallenged and totally op. Please nerf. Vindi in general is terrible and unfun af to fight against. Always has been.
  6. Okay well that's a pretty doomer opinion if I do say so myself. Whether or not they live up to those goals is one thing, we'll have to wait and see. But just saying that asking for a list of good goals to have is somehow naïve is to have the lowest bar set possible for them. Maybe just expect nothing at that point and call it a day lol. Nah Gw2 and Gw1 are both very good games, which means they have the ideas and talent. So having a list of totally achievable goals post launch is not naïve but practical. The game engine is speghetti code which means debugging and trying to fix things is harder, simple as that. It's not like standard dev tools are enough to fix all bugs and errors. Not how game development works. If there's a problem in the game, fixing the problem means potentially knowing what programming went into that system. If the person who programmed it 15 years ago has left, then you might get more easily lost because you don't have the knowhow that engineer did. 343 has the same problem with the blam engine and is thus moving Halo to UE5 also for the exact same reasons. UE5 does have external support, meaning they can reach out and get help if they need it.
  7. When they make a public statement, they're talking to everyone. We are their direct customers, and there's way more of us playing the game than there are investors. Not to say investors aren't putting money down, there's just many more of us. We are indeed their targeted audience. Investors have a stake but could care less about the actual game. They just want to see growth. So its safe to assume that when they make a big public statement, they want to pacify and placate the swarms of plebeian gamers (you and I) from developing mob mentality. The investors they can always talk to directly. They can just reassure them (like what we saw in the leak) that good things are coming and they should maintain their confidence in growth. It's just a balancing act, but to say you and I as gamers have no power here is totally untrue.
  8. The engine they are using is inhouse. As such, it's not being externally supported like UE5 is. That's important because many of the engineers who worked on the engine for both Gw1, and Gw2 are gone now. And if there's a technical problem that they don't know how to solve, then they are kitten out of luck. UE5 is externally supported and much easier to debug with and fix engine related problems. To the second point, I was just saying those were good goals to have. Anet changed a lot from Gw1 to Gw2, so why would me stating those goals that seem perfectly practical to have be naïve?
  9. To your first point, it’s just a leak cuz the guy wasn’t supposed to say anything about gw3, whether it was real or not. To your second thing, I’m dismissing the “clarification” statement because it comes into conflict with the first statement that was made. The leak statement said they’re actively working on it, the official statement said it’s being considered. Now I’m taking the stance that the first statement was the real statement because they did not reject that statement in the “clarification”. They also are talking to all their customers in the official statement, which means PR lawyery type language could easily be at play. All they had to do was say it’s not true and the problem goes away. But they didn’t do that. And they didn’t do that because if they lied, and gw3 gets announced, then people call them (rightfully) liers.
  10. Well it’s a leak because presumably that NCsoft employee wasn’t supposed to say anything about GW3, whether it was a thing or not. These guys have NDA’s and can get in big trouble if they spill the beans. He said what he said because he was getting a lot of pressure to make the company seem like it has good things to come, to make the investor more confident. Thus he said GW3. Now the copium users on these forums want to believe he just said that to say anything to get this guy off of his line of questions. But if that were the case, Anet and NCsoft would have an easy job to do and simply reject the claim in an official statement. But they didn’t do that because GW3 is real;) Get off the cope it’s gonna happen.
  11. Let’s back up a second. I was quoting that comment because people were saying that the leak was a “bad translation” or it was just google translate sucking and wasn’t really what was being said. So I simply quoted that bilingual post showing that that was in fact not true. What isn’t clarifying, is the two messages that were said by NCsoft and anet. We had a leak of an NCsoft employee saying GW3 is in active development, and an official statement saying it was “being considered”. Has to be one or the other can’t be both. It doesn’t make sense to both take a shower and be like “hmm should I hop in the shower right now? I’m considering it.” So I think the leak is more viable as a source because it was behind closed doors without any external forces watching them (or at least so they thought) that would entice them to come up with carefully presented info. An actual clarifying statement would’ve been rejection or acceptance. Either they say that’s not true and they aren’t making Gw3, or they are. They not doing that so I have to assume they are working on gw3.
  12. Nani? It’s greenlit and actively being developed. In any case I was just stating those were good goals for the company to have. Sure they can’t always live up to them because of how life works, but having it as a target ain’t a bad idea either. Nuance is a good thing lol
  13. But it’s not clarifying is it? Because the leak showed the NCsoft employee saying that they’re actively working on GW3. And now the official statement to everyone is that they’re “considering it”. So let me ask you: Which to you sounds more believable? The guy behind closed doors who doesn’t think what he’s saying will be spilled online for everyone to read, or the public statements by the companies themselves knowing that all of the paying customers are watching and reading the statement? Real info is inside info. And that’s what the leak was. It was two people talking without the employee knowing the entire world was gonna read what he said.
  14. We have to consider everything being said, both behind closed doors that was leaked, and to us by these companies as public statements. If what the leak said was not true, it would be easy as pie to dismiss in a public statement. Why deal with backlash if the rumor isn’t even real? But that didn’t happen. Both anet and NCsoft said something like: “GW3 is still under consideration, but for the moment the company has its eyes solely on GW2.” We know this is PR jargon because it’s not rejecting the leak. All they have to do is say “Lol, no Gw3 guys sorry, we only making GW2.” But they never are saying that. They’re saying stuff like they’re “considering” making Gw3 and they’re “exploring the idea of future projects”. It doesn’t need to be that complicated. If there’s no GW3, then they’d say it. But they’re not. They’re beating around the bush and using legalese and lawyer speak for better PR. And they’re using carefully selected word choices because they want you, yes you, to keep playing their game.
  15. I guess selective listening really is a thing lol. I know what the quote says. I’m telling you that the quote is PR jargon. I keep saying this so let’s explain some stuff about PR lol: From Wikipedia: “The aim of public relations is to inform the public, prospective customers, investors, partners, employees, and other stakeholders, and persuade them to maintain a positive or favorable view about the organization, its leadership, products, or political decisions.“ “Public relations specialists establish and maintain relationships with an organization's target audience, the media, relevant trade media, and other opinion leaders.” So whenever NCsoft or Anet make a public statement to everyone, they have to keep in mind that they’re talking to their targeted audience. You and I are their target audience, their customers. So if they say “Hey guys we’re making GW3, but can’t say anything yet;)” That’s bad PR. Why is that bad PR? Because it tells their customers that all play GW2 that a new guild wars game is gonna come out. This could backfire easily. People could begin to think that Anet doesn’t care about GW2 anymore. They could think their time playing the game is being wasted because none of it is being supported anymore due to GW3. Hell that’s kind of already happening on a much smaller scale, and that’s with good PR. Anet and ncsoft can’t just lie though. If they say “Nope. No GW3, not being made.” Then that will bite them in the behind years later when it’s actually announced. People turn against them for lying to everyone, and they lose money potentially. So what do they do? They use lawyer speak:) They say something like: ”We’re considering future projects but at the moment we’re steadfast working on GW2.” This is an intentionally misleading statement. But this allows them to have their cake and eat it too. Now they can keep giving us Gw2 mini expansions (like they already said they would) AND work on GW3 at the same time (splitting their resources between the two). And when it’s time to announce GW3 it looks like they’ve lived up to continuously supporting Gw2 (which technically they have, it just wasn’t large updates at once like the first 3 expacs), and they weren’t lying because they said previously “We’re considering future projects..” which turned out to pan out into Gw3. But the leak tells a more comprehensive story. And that’s what’s important. The leak suggests that they’re not merely playing around with the idea of GW3, but actively working on it. And that makes sense considering us getting smaller sized packaged expacs for GW2, because their resources are divided between GW2 and GW3. Cope.
