  1. As far as I could tell, no, there was no other way than to buckle down and do the strike (not a huge fan of them myself). I ended up LFGing and joining an 'all welcome, first run' training group and we got it in our first three tries. You'll want to have a healer in your group if you choose to rip this bandaid off and go do it, but generally people seem to be patient and willing to help if you're interested in doing the strike as someone who really doesn't enjoy them/isn't very skilled in combat. The boss does have some mechanics you'll need to pay attention to if you'll want to live through to the end, but you may also be able to be carried through it if your teammates are meaty enough. All that said, it'd be cool if they added another achievement or two to this map mastery to give people more options; I hate when they make it an exact cutoff like this because it doesn't 'help people discover that they actually love strikes', it just frustrates a portion of players and ensures one of the meta achievements will sit uncompleted or remembered as 'that time I had to lay on the floor while 9 other players killed the boss for 10 minutes'.
  2. This thread is from July of last year, hello. Inspect anxiety wasn't any part of the points I was making in 2022, rather the opposite; that it's simple to ask someone (or the community at large) about fashion or browse the wardrobe/wiki instead of requesting a feature from ArenaNet that might well be poorly implemented. Inherently, a skins-only inspect feature shouldn't hurt anything, but the many existing methods by which to determine what skins are being worn + ArenaNet's track record for monkey-pawing requested features are what lead me to conclude it might not be worth the development time.
  3. 'The Obscure' might just be another name for 'The Arcane' or whatever brand of magic is being tapped by the sky wizards. We'll be getting a new mastery called Heart of the Obscure, which is said to be some kind of artifact. It appears to be made from concentrations of the stuff with the 'heart' being a sort of fancy stone/energy mass and the 'obscure' being the magic woobles that power/emanate from it if we're going by the associated screenshots they've shared. The factions appear to be outlined already too, being the Wizard’s Court and the Astral Ward on the 'good guy' side and the Kryptis on the 'face-eating demonic monster' side, which makes it more likely that the Obscure isn't referring to a group of people.
  4. It's more that the best MMA fighter couldn't walk through a mouse hole - but a mouse could. Skyscale is able to do a lot of things, but it's not always the right choice for what you're trying to do and certainly not always the 'best' in terms of speed or efficiency, which is what was being claimed. Being willing to use different mounts in different situations is what's being said to be the 'best'. If you want to argue that the Skyscale is convenient then sure, but that's a different point.
  5. The easy and fair solution is the one they implemented: Two ways to get a Skyscale, additional mastery benefits for training up both. Incentive to visit multiple parts of the game instead of just Elona or just SotO. Your reward for having already obtained Skyscale is the ability to upgrade immediately in SotO whereas everyone else will have to backtrack (plus all the time you've spent enjoying your skychonk until now). Source: Did it the old way before nerfs, and am fine with the way they are doing this. If anyone deserves 'compensation' it's the people whose runes are about to get hecked up by relics taking the bonus out of them. They're actually losing functionality whereas current Skyscale owners are only gaining.
  6. Responses from support staff to tickets people have filed. They've said if all you have on your account is SotO, you'll have access to Skyscale through the new acquisition method, but you will not receive a Raptor like you would for accounts that own any of the other expansions. Given that we've seen no advertising telling us 'you'll be able to get your very own Springer, Jackal, etc.' in SotO, it's probably safe to assume Skyscale is the only one you'd be able to unlock if SotO is the only expansion you have.* Incidentally, ticket responses are also how we know that if you only buy SotO, you won't get access to the Revenant class either. Either that and the Raptor thing are oversights, or it's intended. That's the only part we won't know until release - unless the support staff are straight up wrong. * Barring any changes between now and release.
  7. The Skyscale can do a lot of things moderately well, but the other mounts can do specific things very well, and that's why people will continue to use them even though the skychonker is an option. There's also the matter of how the mounts move and what skins are available for them which influences more people's usage decisions than you might think. You know what Springer could really use? A crash test helmet. As for buffing other mounts, I think you're likely to see additional abilities added to existing mounts which, to be clear, is great. Why crowd the UI with 50 mount buttons when you can distribute 50 new functions between the 9 mounts we already have? They've already started doing this with a few of them (and with some masteries for all of them, like stealth), so I see no reason why they wouldn't continue.
  8. Mounts: - Griffon skin presented as a Wizard's Vault reward - Raptor skin available as a pre-order reward - No mention of mount restrictions Other Travel: - New masteries for leylines & updrafts 'you'll unlock the ability for flying mounts to use leylines and updrafts (including those in previous maps). ' - Updrafts (and possibly ziplines?) visible top-leftish in SotO promotional screenshot - Heart of the Obscure and Astral Ward masteries are said to 'allow you (to) explore the world more freely' and may be movement abilities (or access to portals of some sort) It'd be awfully odd to have updrafts, leylines, and a high risk of falling in the new aerial-themed maps and not include gliding. And with nothing saying mounts will be restricted, I'd say it's safe to assume you'll have access to all of your usual mounts and movement abilities. Just maybe don't use a Springer to try and jump the gap between sky islands; it won't be pretty.
  9. I went back to the SotO rewards article and pulled some relevant lines: The Wizard’s Vault is a new streamlined rewards system that combines the best elements of the daily login and daily achievement systems With the release of Guild Wars 2: Secrets of the Obscure, you’ll receive new objectives to complete daily, weekly, and with each quarterly release. As you complete objectives you’ll earn Astral Acclaim, a new account-wide currency, which can be exchanged for rewards of your choosing Our goal is for Wizard’s Vault rewards are (sic) meant to be attainable through regular, normal play; there are no paid upgrades or progression skips, and the legacy section exists to take the time pressure off and allow players to catch up if they take a break. Some Wizard’s Vault tasks and rewards are exclusive to Guild Wars 2: Secrets of the Obscure, but all accounts with a level 80 character will have access to the feature. Judging solely by the wording they chose there, it seems they want to combine the login and daily systems and the upcoming vault feature will be available to everyone, even people who don't have SotO on their account. Those two things together seem to indicate dailies and login rewards will be removed and replaced by the Wizard Vault, with additional dailies and such being available to people who do buy SotO, similar to how we have dailies in living world maps and other expansion areas in addition to core game locations. Probably you'll log in and get some Astral Acclaim currency (or some other minor reward), then you'll get tasks that let you earn a bit more Astral Acclaim - essentially your log-in reward is likely to be account-bound currency instead of items. When you have enough currency, you'll then be able to buy stuff from the Vault with the reward pool refreshing on a quarterly basis. So yeah, I'd say it looks like daily login rewards are going to turn into/be replaced by the Wizard's Vault. Could be a nerf, or could feel all right; we won't know til it gets here.
  10. My guess is that you will see more 'Feathered Raptor' skins that are similar to the Astral Ward Feathered Raptor skin available with the pre-purchase. Astral Ward is a faction specific to the story and probably not a species name, so I'd expect to see 'Jade Tech Feathered Raptor', 'Guy Fieri Feathered Raptor', 'Hey It's A Robot Feathered Raptor', 'Feathered Raptor, But On Fire' etc. down the road.
  11. Small note here, but people actually did complain about the macaw wings, both for monetary reasons and for other reasons that earned them free vacations from the forum. Still silly in both cases though. If you bought the wings right before the promo, support would most likely have refunded your purchase - otherwise, they're an ancient cosmetic that was only available through the shop and having it before other people until this month was the reward for buying it. As for the Skyscale, it's an in-game reward that people have enjoyed the use of for many years now + it will have advantages over the version people will be getting with SotO. There will always be people who are Big Upsetti when something changes for the benefit of others (nerfed content, increasing exclusive item availability, promos returning unobtainable items to the game, PvE legendary armor, items going on sale or being discounted after a while, etc.) even if those changes do not affect the people in question. It be like that sometimes. Look forward to a few weeks of angry threads before people realize it's not actually a big deal and move on to the next item on their list.
  12. I thought for sure you'd end out this list with RoI, Return on Investment. Should be interesting to see how their new content delivery plans work out since the upcoming expansion will be the first example of it in practice. ☕
  13. I think more prosthetics would be neat. We do have a couple (like the Jade ones you mentioned, also the pirate peg leg and hook hand) but the more the merrier. Wouldn't mind some Asuran magitech, aetherblade hologram, or even 'improvised' prosthetics made from unexpected materials like the weapon set of the same name. Releasing these with L/R and both-side versions (like the Oni arms) would definitely be a plus as well. With how dangerous Tyria is, I'm surprised we haven't seen more NPCs with missing pieces and clever ways of replacing them.
  14. To OP's question of 'should we have a non-raid PvE legendary armor?' - Yeah, we should. Leave it to ArenaNet to figure out what kind of time and materials would be required for it. If openworld PvE legendary armor were implemented tomorrow afternoon, the squalling would carry on for maybe a week tops and then things would go back to normal and people would shift off to complain about something else (It's happening in this thread already). The game'd be fine - if not much improved - with the addition of this obvious carrot toward engagement with the majority of the game's existing content. PS: When swimsuits?
  15. Check the last sentence of the report. Their message to support says they did get a code, just that the code wasn't for a collectable as had been advertised. That's the whole issue this thread is about, ArenaNet and Madrinas saying people will get one thing (an exclusive, collectable in-game item) and instead giving them a different thing (common coffee consumables and a primer). Unclear messaging in promos usually does lead to disappointment, and even the support dev who replied appears to agree.
