  1. Hey Jennifer! you did well with the whole build/armor/ runes to do what you state you want to and that is open world pve and story. With the extra armor at 2700+ you will be able to withstand open world, plus with the combined crit 40% plus the condi at 1400+ with your power as is you will roll. However, it depends on if that is enough to satisfy your game play, if it is , you are good. If you feel like you want to push the envelope in open world and take on champions, with a group you will be fine even with average players around you, your armor will come in handy, but, if you are alone and want to challenge a champion the build may not be as optimal, healing power is on the low side, you will have conditions on you and they hit very hard, also some of them will have vets and a mob so even tougher to survive. If you go tankier you will sacrifice dps from some sort, condi or power, or crit, so you may not be happy with less damage, most people are not. I think what you did is enough and more for you to have fun seeing decent dps and have enough survivability to have fun! Plus you may want to keep saving your mats, because you might want to make another armor set anyway to keep tinkering with another build, imo 1 of the really fun parts of this game! For general purpose you did well, i say go for it! have fun and gl!
  2. You are on the right track with settlers, turn it into leftpaw when u are ready to upgrade the armor, I Tempest Tank only, that is gw2 for me, i have run all ele options, tank is what i prefer, also solo tough content , when not in a dung, fractal, with guild. Stick with your signets for now, if u enjoy them, especially keep the earth, i run staff, because u can facetank the champ and the group with it, also attack from distance, (fire#4, then#5 for exp). Best heals from staff as well. u got the other weapons down style wise, but the focus, has not much heals going for it, dagger/warhorn(when u get tempest) i find fun, still not enough heals as the staff, again u want to solo champs right? need the heals. i cannot run the champ mile the same with dag / warhorn , vs staff, u start to see what u are missing in the heals dept even if the armor is the same. For core atm, water, earth is a must, run air or fire for damage, then DROP THE OFFENSE for earth, water, tempest. 3300+armor, 1k-1,300k for condi damage, at least 700+ heals, i run 800-900+ depending nowadays, open world is easy, till u decide to challenge a champ, then its a bit different fight. Like u stated earlier, 1 or 2 hits, dps toons are finished. Tempest alsp gives u shouts so ditch the signets for the shouts, providing auras/boons that will make u CLOSE TO UNSTOPPABLE!!!! i will share my set up, traits=water 1-3-3, earth 3-1-1, tempest 1-2-3, for help with knockdowns, (a real weakness as u prob know) or 3-2-3 for overload aura/boons! Heal skill is glyph, if with group use wash the pain away. Try earth, water, fire shouts, then elite i use glyph, water for heals, most of the time its up, fire for damage, earth for the tank, air is not bad, but i find it least useful. Damage is the greatsword is all we really have lol. Rebound in group setting, Although, glyph can be more useful(CLEANSING WAVE) if u boost your healing power to 1k++ to heal your team!(bring down the condi damage way down, for healing power) Runes i use Durability again HOT runes, so for now, go to TP read the runes preferable pick 1 with toughness to add to your tankiness! This tank style is for the rare but if u like it, try this, add some of your own wrinkles to it, experiment, have fun testing! Then do champ runs!!!!!! GOOD LUCK!!
  3. Tom i went through the same frustration in 2012, 2013, Kept on mixing in gw, with gw2, so much a vastly different game, especially with the short comings of the gw2 ele. Load up 7 henchmen do a dungeon in HM, Heroes, Well that was now awesome to have, u can only mix 3 with the party at introduction, the other 4 had to be henchies(for those who did not play gw, later on u could use 7 heros!) do UW, FOW , DOA for another challenge, u could do that if u wanted if no guildies were on, or did not have time or commitment to join u. Tom i was having a big time problem with going from the 42nd battalion( 8 in party, 22 spirits, 12 minions, while i spammed SEARING FLAMES(remember that 1 anet???) or savannah heat, or a few others from air, earth, even water). Now here u are in gw2 , ele, lol u get pulvarized up close kinda like a little sticker shocked. Tom what kept me coming back to gw2 was the intrigue of using the 4 attunements, freely, without having to build for just 1 before starting a run in gw. You need all 4 attunement's when running especially when going after something tuff, or Hot, Pof, or if u want to challenge champions. As stated above, combinations are extremely valuable whether group or solo, with tempest/core using staff, earth 2, then fire 2 will give u might, or u can start in air, skill 5, earth 5, water 2 fire 2, so many more fields , can keep u alive and help your team mates. Tom you might want to consider some defense if u are soloing around, I tempest tank , so earth is actually good enough, with -as a-net puts it- damage over time lol To take down champs NP. Tom with 1,000 power i can slow walk in Hot with NP just as a example. Use the 4 attunements!! Tom if tank is not for u , as with most people, try adding some more toughness, more than u have been using, use all 4 attunements, i think u will see a difference if u are running solo, try maybe using a armor that has a least a minor with toughness, Soldier's, Dire, Sentinel's,Commander's, to name some. You can add more power etc, with your trinkets to try to find what u are looking for then have fun testing!!!!! STAFF needs some buffing for sure Tom, fire 4 for example, i would never build with it, i use it yes, when it calls for, its on the skill bar lol. Our ele elites fall way short in gw2 from gw1 not EVEN CLOSE, GOT IT A-NET, 14 years, ELE, like some other die hards on this forum. You can still work it to do what u want any where vs 99% of foes solo if u build for it, even with our ele shortcomings , i do and you do more damage than i do! GL TOM!
  4. It depends how you define a waste of time ? Sure those champions take time to kill, bring very little reward. What about fun, challenge, and satisfaction? Nowadays, people play fast-food mmo, they don't do things that bring no reward. On top of that, I improve my skill by finding a way to beat each champion. Maps are sometimes empty, so you can't expect help whenever you want. Big Time! Challenge, no one around, can u solo the champ and the group that comes with it? means something to some players, for open world pve, regular mobs u tear through them, with anything build/ weapons, Vets slightest effort, champs however different category. Some people look at it differently, behind the guildmates blasting away feels good, seeing the numbers fly, viability there? guess so, but how bout taking on something very hard? can u find that in open world? well MOST players CAN NOT SOLO champs. still viable? IDK. Cele ele is a good all around but solo anything is leaving out really HARD content. With less than 3000 armor, some core champs yeah, Broodmother will run u over, Wanted Champs who hit like a Truck, much harder without defense.
  5. You can look over the stats on the exotic armor the trading post offers. See how you want to build your toon, with what $ gold you can afford to spend on armor. At level 80 you should be able to get something decent to improve your play from what you have been used to at this point, Chest armor is 314, boots 133, head and shoulder are both 73, pants are 194, hands are 133. Look for these stats when looking at different armor, that is the Light class armor stats, Identify those first , then look over what the armor offers, power, healing, vitality, etc. Also check how much Karma you have, in ORR you can buy armor at some of the vendors using Karma!!!!!!! Find these vendors in cursed shore and malchors leap. GL!
  6. Staff Tempest Tank here, keep in mind for when u get to 80, there is the Tank option, if the squishyness troubles u, as it did myself. When i say Tank i mean 3200, to 3500 armor, Roughly 700-900 healing power in that range. Your vitality can be 16 to 21k. Lastly Condi damage is where the rest of your points go. You should have 900-1,200, Consider Settlers armor( toughness+ healing+ condi) your trinkets can make up your vitality, as well as adding armor, or healing or condi damage. If u test this route consider maxing your points to those 4 attributes. Low damage, high sustain, to the point u can take on champs yourself , if there is no one around or not in a guild/group. Specializations should be water, earth , tempest. Main thing always test different builds, have fun doing that, see what u like to do. Test the elements as per the situation during fights you will need them all, that IS what the toon is.
