  1. At release SotO is going to take away more than it actually gives me. A year later, if and only if I buy the expansion, I might be given the privilege of spending a bunch more gold and grinding who knows how long just to be back where I am today. Sure, I'll get some nebulous "progress" towards restoring that removed part of my gameplay, but ANet is telling me I won't even get all of that unless I trust them enough to buy the 7th legendary rune that's already useless and slated to become even less useful in a month. Glad to not be sitting on that fence any longer.
  2. I wouldn't say I'm going to quit because of this one specific change, especially since I prefer Relics mechanically to the old system, but I was already on the fence about this expansion and seeing something I spent a lot of my limited resources on being made measurably worse is definitely pushing me further towards sitting it out. That may be your opinion. In my opinion Legendary Runes are devalued if they no longer fulfill the purpose I created them for. They will not fulfill that purpose in SotO, so the expansion will devalue them.
  3. Back in the day gathering the patience to grind 250 of each PoF map currency was an accomplishment. The IBS->PoF currency trade made it a lot easier.
  4. That's an insanely bad faith strawman. Each armor weight has a grand total of 3 character professions that are capable of using it. Requiring full map completion on twice as many characters as there are professions that can even use the armor is patently ridiculous. Beyond that you're comparing armor sets that were prestige skins, and skins only, in GW1 to something with a substantial amount of endgame functionality in GW2. Being salty because people aren't forced into modes they don't want to play isn't enough justification for demanding nonsense requirements on new alternatives for useful QoL functionality. Legendary armor sets, no matter what content it is earned in, should be something a single character, without alts, is capable of earning. It's OK if alts speed up the process somehow, since that's how they effect every other legendary, but not if they are literally required for you to earn the Gifts needed.
  5. Six legendary runes, not seven, because only six are currently required to gain the effect even though a total of seven are equippable. No one made that seventh rune unaware of how little marginal utility it offers over six runes, whereas the runes under the current system are just shy of useless without a set of six.
  6. That's way too much. Each full set of legendary armor requiring 1 of each of those could be reasonable. Requiring map completion on 6 characters for one set of armor is ridiculous. "Competitive or raid modes" are irrelevant. Raid armor isn't particularly difficult to earn, and you don't even need to win for legendary armor in the competitive modes.
  7. Where did you come up with this idea? All people want is to avoid having something they invested a lot of time into (or spent a good deal of actual cash on) taken away from them. Imagine you made legendary armor, and they announced "Starting with the new expansion you will only be able to change half of the attributes on your legendary equipment." Would that not make your legendary armor meaningfully worse? Would the new legendary armor still fill the purpose that motivated you to invest time into getting it?
  8. If they give me the legendary relic when they change the system and retain my legendary runes, then I'll have the functionality I have now that I specifically grinded to have. If they leave me with just the new stat-stick runes, I'll have effectively one entirely invisible piece of legendary armor worth of stats that cost more than an entire set of legendary armor costs. Assuming they don't realize there's little reason not to fold stats from runes and stat infusions into the base stats of armor down the line and ax them completely.
  9. I can't imagine they would be aware of the issue, have a resolution planned, and then not mention it during the announcement.
  10. You... can already? Unless I'm mistake, come SotO the only legendary slots that won't have an open-world focused option are the rings and backpiece. Legendary Runes are are almost 100% buyable. The only stuff you can't get from the trading post are spirit shards and obsidian shards. Although if I had known this change was coming, I wouldn't have bothered with them and would have thrown that gold towards something else. They had some use since 6 pc bonuses were pretty important and you could do some interesting stuff with them, now they're just a chestpiece worth of stats you can change for 6 times the price of a legendary chestpiece.
