  1. a little skinny WHY NOT? because all it does is bread negativity, discrimination and nothing but a bad flow in-game.if it was up to me i would ban arcDPS from the game and ban ppl from using it, DPS is absolutely useless when you suck at the game. Actuaklly a DPS meter does the opposite. I created an environment where its easier for people to go into groups and prove themselves. Class discrimination was also diminished hard by arc dps. Let me take you back to a time where we had no legal means of seeing each others dps. Back in HoT times where in raids we had the infamous mirror comps, with 6 supporters and 4 dpslers. Those dps roles? Reserved for eles. The community had the perception that an Ele would always outdps just everything. Other classes in most groups were only taken if no ele would show up for a while and if the group would not meet the dps requirement, the non ele would always be kicked. Example, No updraft Gorseval. Group has 3 Eles and one Dragonhunter but fails to do enough damage to do no updraft Gorseval. Who gets kicked? The Dragonhunter. Because it was "common knowledge" that the ele would always do enough damage and so it was the Dragonhunter who was the weakest link for not building an Ele. Doesn't matter if the DH actually did the most damage or not, he would still getting kicked because everyone thinks that he was the weakest link in the group and if the one who actually did no damage is still in the group then nothing was solved and the group would still wipe on that boss. Now same scenario but with an actual dps meter. Group fails and leader looks at the damage the group did and finds out, 2 Eles and the DH were doing enough but one of the eles was just doing as much as the chrono tank. The leader now knows where the problem is and can act based on actual information instead of perception and class discrimination. Also the new place would be free to any dps class. Even a reaper could show up and pull its own weight ( reapers had the reputation of doing kitten damage, and without an actual dps meter it would have no chance of getting into the group ) Today, most raid groups ojnly kick you for bad dps if your damage is actually bad ( like under 10k without doing mechanics or even worse doing as much as the dedicated healers ). Doing just enough is actually that. Enough to actually stay in the raid group. anything that prevents me from actually playing is a bad idea, if DPS is the only thing ppl care about then Anet needs to do something about that like actually making the game challenging without focusing on DPS.also, as long as this kind of discrimination happens i will always hate raids, it's nothing but toxicity and doesn't add anything to the game. but please, convince me otherwise, have a group that doesn't care about DPs as long as it's fun but don't come to me crying when that very thing is impossible because of arcDPS.Had enough raids with classes and builds that would be impossible without arcDPS, because that program breaks perception and gives you actual information. Again arcDPS reduced class discrimination a lot, you don't need to convince others that your build is good, they can see if you know what you are doing in that raid. Heck you could go into a raid with an off meta build, do your stuff and nobody cares if its meta or not ( assuming you don't do 1k dps when going for a dps position, or fail to heal anyone as a healer ), which was NOT the case in vanilla and early HoT where we didn't have a tool like this. Back then you were kicked for having the audacity to play something like ranger or necromancer ( I also gave you an example from HoT times, where those things still happened and only stopped after arc got introduced ). Now you go in say hi, your role and ( if demanded ) ping your li or kp Also getting kicked for not doing what the team expects you from doing is not discrimination. Getting kicked for using a class thats perceived as trash without zhaving a chance to prove yourself... THATS discrimination. Also, what should be impossible due to arc?

  3. Seems like the Cantha meme just doesn't die. Also. Why Cantha? Why another human centric expansion, after we had a LOT of focus on the humans for 2 Living Story Seasons and an entire expansion? First we need something for the Norn, Charr and Asura before going back to Humans again.
  4. Two things here, for the guys who disagree strongly with DPS-Meters. First, a Question. How do you think the community would evolve if suddenly DPS meters were banned? Second a Scenario. HoT time. You are the Raidleader. Raid consists of 2 Chronos, 2 Druids, 2 PS Warriors, 3 Eles and 1 Guardian. No DPS Metres. You do know the following, Ele is the first place on the DPS benchmarks and the second place power DPS is 15k behind. You are trying Gorseval No-Updraft but fail due to lacking DPS. After a few wipes you have to kick someone otherwise the group is most likely to disband. OF the 4 DPS players, who is getting the boot? And why is that player getting kicked.
  5. That's because your group did the fight incorrectly. Cairn targets the person furthest away from the group with his range attack which cause knock down if you are hit. So the general idea is to have a person stand on the edge of the group and just focus on tanking the attacks. This is generally either a healer with some sort of projectile destruction such as druid or renegade, you can also do it on a couple other classes like scourge but those 2 are the safest. The rest of the group then stand behind him and do your rotation. The other attack could be the giant aoe sweep that happens a couple times in the fight which you can dodge. I am assuming your group had no kiter which caused the issue. You can definitely beat it while standing in the middle if your group knows how to deal with it either stability or projectile destruction. However since this probably sounds like a new group, get a kiter. tl;dr: Your group did the mechanic wrong. Thing is you don't need projectile destruction or stability on the boss. Just stand close enough and you won't get hit by the shards. Don't reflect the shards and you'll be fine.
  6. So if you get knocked down constantly either one of two things happened. First: You weren't in the middle. If you put the shaders on medium you'll see a some sort of circle in the ground. This is the safe zone for the third part of his AA where he spawns shards that will knock you away. Quite a lot of people are getting constantly knocked because they are not in the safe zone and they don't see it ( a lot of people you put shaders on low here )Second: Someone reflected the shards quite often. Shards still knock you down if they are reflected. There are two other knock down abilities. First his LONG DICK OF JUSTICE. Where he transforms his right arm into a pole. slams it on the ground and does a 360 with it. If you see the arm on the ground then and it moves, just dodge to the right.Second is his teleport ability, just don't be in his way and wait until he is in the middle again before moving to a green. I still see quite a few people getting knocked off the platform due to them being impatient.
  7. Please post your build that does 30k dps with 1 skill and also being self-sustaining with constant 25 might sharing , resistance, stab, vulnerability etc He doesn't use dmg meters so he doesn't even know how hard his builds underperorm. He saw a 30k 100blades and thinks it's a lot. The ps banner bs hits for more than double that amount but you can't know that if you don't run arc or watch guides.Axe hits way harder than that anyways and also stacks might because the gs trait works with other weapons aswell now. My reaper has almost 30k autoattacks. You will never notice how hard your own build sucks or which profession is strong wuithout comparing to others. I got even told in a t3 fractal rec that weaver is garbage in fractals during the old op staff days.Build inspections would be really funny in open world content. Would explain some of the difficulty complaints in the general forum like the souleater who got nerfed because still a lot of players have no clue what a breakbar is.Since I only disable ArcDPS after a big patch for a short amount of time, I see the dps numbers on open world fights ( when fighitng in squads ) and those numbers are quite interesting. You see how low the open world bosses are really tuned and how many people are just using some yolo builds or just AA which, since its open world, is fine. I sometimes do the same in Open Worlds just for fun, but sometimes I think those yolo stuff comes into group content where your build matters and I'd really like the builds from some people who were playing way less than optimal.
  8. So you want a more restrictive and toxic community and also piss off a good amount of players and then kill the game.... Nice.
  9. Hint: there's way more to dps than just the right gear. Build and rotation are at least as important (if not more). And estimating damage by looking at health bar decrease is an extremely primitive (and faulty) method. Especially in a squad environment. As long as the game mechanics make it so there's a massive gap in effectiveness between players, and as long as there will be game encounters where success chances are significantly impacted by effectiveness/skill level of participating players, people will want to be able to estimate said skill for everyone they are grouped for in such a content. Yes, it can lead to unpleasant behaviour when some players will be found wanting. It's something that cannot be avoided however - people have every right to NOT want with someone else, especially when they have a good reason to be selective. If you want to avoid such a situation, you can't do it by removing DPS meters (or other methods of checking skill/performance). You'd need to remove the reason why people are interested in that performance. So, basically, the only way would be to reduce the difficulty of the content. Only when your skill level won't matter for the completion chance, and won't significantly impact completion time the other players will stop caring about how good you are. The more impact your skill has on those things however, the bigger the number of players that will care. And the stronger their reaction if they'll think you're dragging them down. of course when i said "highest possible damage" gear, it also entails that the traits, skills and sigils and runes contribute to that highest damage gear, rite? so what's the use of having highest damage gear if you are gimping yourself by using less damage additional gear/traits? put EVERYTHING on max and arcdps will have no use.. tell me what's the purpose of arcdps again?to see that you can inflict the max damage.. which can be shortcircuited/roundedoff by using the highest possible build.. so you don't really need that arcdps.. unless you can something rottingly fishy with it..Well to be clear. With this thinking you can have BiS gear on every slot but you'll still be outdpsed by people who know their class and use exotic or even yellow gear. Why? Because one of the most important things for your performance is your rotation. The difference between a good and a bad rotation here can be as high as the difference between the damage of a T1 to a T2 set in another MMO percentage wise. Srsly you can be surprised by how low you damage can be even with BiS Gear if you don't train your rotation on the golem and on the bosses. You'd be between the banner slave and the support chrono with your DPS if you just copy stuff and don't think on how to make it work.
  10. To all who think that DPS-Meters are bad for the community... Well Yasi nearly nailed it. It wasn't bad during the times where we had no DPS-Meters, it was even worse. Staff Tempest or GTFO was the rule. Also people told each other " If you can do 20k on Guardian because you are good on that class you can do even more on Ele", despite the fact that both played completely different. I saw quite a lot of people who unironically thought that even if they go downstate a lot they would still do a lot more damage than others, also that catching the one Ele who just AAs and uses Meteorshower a few times, to look like they are doing something, while other Eles were doing their stuff, was easy ( spoiler alert... it was not easy ). Also it didn't matter if the Guardian in the group was doing 20k while the 3 Eles were doing 10k, if the group failed Gorseval no updraft the Guardian would get the boot like Yasi said. It let people who wanted to raid and do dps to equip Ele, even if they didn't like the class. Eles knew that if any other class wanted to do DPS they would be safe from getting the boot so a lot of Eles just got lazy. After DPS-Meters got allowed and there was quite a shock in the raiding community. It basically kicked Ele from being mandatory to something like " If good ele, JACKPOT, if bad ele... meh ). Players began to see that other classes were more than capable of dealing high amount of damage and people who thought that they were good saw that they still had a lot to learn, and they did their training to get better. And kicks were done less and less based on suspicion and more on facts. And suspicion based kicks are way more toxic than kicks based on the fact that the kicked player did less DPS than the Chrono Tank as a DPS. Basically DPS-Meters didn't just made it possible for other classes to go DPS on a regular basis without the fear of being kicked, thus making it less restrictive. They also helped the raid community to get better. So much better that it can be mistaken for power creep. ( there was some power creep with PoF but it was nothing like the one we got from the HoT release. What changed in the time between HoT and PoF was that Anet actually made it possible for most of us to get better at the game ) Today most people won'T really mind if you aren't even close to the Benchmark. First rule: Do more than the Chrono Tank/support, srsly if you fail that as a DPS than you are, either afk, or using the wrong stats. Second: Be close to the average of the other raiders, only be an outlier if you get mechanic after mechanic and/or if being outlier means that you are well above the rest. Even if you aren't doing that much, if the boss falls smoothly most people won't mind. It only becomes a problem if the raid fails on a boss.
  11. First suggestion: No Cantha. We've dealt with human lore the first 5 raid wings, nearly 2 Living Story seasons and an entire expansion. Its time to put another race on the spotlight. A race that deserves it, like the Norn. Second: More endgame releases.
  12. 75% of the problems? Care to explain what banning Arc would fix? Congratulations, you just killed group content in the game. With this system you could just enter a fractal and raid group naked and demand everyone to let you in otherwise rewards would be blocked. If you are getting kicked today, its not because of 1k dps less, groups don't care if you do 1k less then ideal. It because you are either really bad ( being involved in a dps race with the bannerslave or support chrono as a dps for example ) or because of outright disrespecting the group ( not reading any description, being rude etc. ). It can be frustrating enough when people join while ignoring the description in the LFG, like joining as a dps when group is looking for a healer or support chrono. With this system group content will be too much of a hassle to play if you need some randoms to fill up some spots. I'm not sure if people understand that in group content the group itself is more important than the individual. The fun of 9 people in this moment should not be killed by just one guy who doesn't understand group content. The guy who demands that the group should bow to his special build with stats plastered all over the place because this is how he plays, is way more toxic than the group who then kicks him for disrespecting the group and replacing him with someone who can integrate into the group. The toxicity here is quite ironic.
  13. One question to the people who want DPS-Meters to be banned. What do you think will happen after such a ban?
  14. Honestly, we had an Expansion that rode on nostalgia already with PoF, another nostalgia expansion would be too soon. And lets be honest, there is A lot of space that Anet could use for their expansions, not only that but also fill those spaces with lore, cultures, etc. Also with Cantha. What would that continent look like? Don't forget that Kaineng is a megacity and most of it was one big slum and after around 200 years, that slum would more or less even bigger and still being ugly as fuck. After Kaineng we have the jade sea and echovald forest and they may be not the same places anymore. There are rumors that the sea at least is liquifying again. Also there wouldn't be faction wars there since Kurzicks and Luxons were conquered between GW1 and GW2, oh and Tengu won't be there either. Again, its time for an expansion to take us where we have never been and explore the unknown instead of having another nostalgi expansion.
  15. Base gw2 went wrong. Not just in difficulty alone but also in its "ability" to teach players certain mechanics that are important later on. Also remember when dungeons, which were expected to be tough as nails, got rekt quite hard in Vanilla? Even before that power creep? ( Don't get me started on the quality there as well ) And GW2 still isn't teaching us today on certain mechanics. Just look at breabars. Agreed. If an easy mode is applied to every boss then some bosses need a complete overhaul. I mean, who wants an easy mode of MO? Or Escort? Also doing Easy mode costs time and ressources, which either would slow down the development of new raid-wings or other content that Anet is working on. Especially if Anet want to make sure that Easy mode isn't gonna be infantile mode.
